This summer, Neepawa-area residents will have the chance to “walk” with the town’s pioneers and visionaries. On July 21, local grief support group, New Beginnings, will be hosting Cemetery Sagas; a salute to those who shaped the community.

What would be known as the Great Depression was ushered in by the stock market crash in 1929. That caused a worldwide economic depression. This was followed with a horrendous drought that struck the Prairie provinces, which were reliant on one single crop, wheat. What the drought did not get, the grasshoppers and the wind storms that tore away the topsoil did, and devastated agricultural production.

What does it mean to be Canadian? As the country prepares to celebrate its 150th birthday, many people, myself included, are asking this question. I was born in this country, as were my parents, you would think I would know what it means to be Canadian, but I don’t.
