Branconier building burns

On Wednesday, May 24 at 2:20 p.m. Rivers/Daly Fire Department responded to a 911 call and raced to the home of Sean and Rebekah Branconier in Rivers. The family (children Nathan, Michael and Teyah) live on Hwy. 250 in Rivers’ north end — the second home from the north on the west side of the road; their official address is SE 26-12-21. Members were required to extinguish a shed fire, which was completely destroyed, as were its contents and more.

The past few seasons have been very busy for Rivers Comets Baseball Club. Four years ago the team didn’t exist and had no diamond to play on. Finding players was the easy part; building a field would prove more challenging.

We who live in The Banner’s coverage area have a national treasure virtually next door. It is the oldest of its kind in Manitoba. It covers an area of 3000 km, has over 400 km of hiking, bike, horse and wagon trails and, except for the lingering effects of the occasional forest fire, remains virtually as it was at the end of the ice age. This treasure is Riding Mountain National Park.
