Golf season underway in Rivers

Riverdale Golf Club marked its official season opener with a free pancake and sausage breakfast in their clubhouse on Sunday, May 3. To guide the club this year is Jeff Worth, who accepted the president position last September when long-time president Andy Gerrard stepped down. Maxine Veitch is club secretary, Janice Worth is treasurer and Dustin Veitch is vice-president. Brian Robins is groundskeeper and he will arrange for fellow workers as needed. Gayle Bullee is the clubhouse manager; her assistant is Audrey MacKay.
Provincial budget garners reaction from Mayor de Groot

Neepawa Mayor Adrian de Groot was hoping to see a few more highlights for rural Manitoba in the provincial government’s new budget. The governing NDP tabled a $15-billion budget on Thursday, Apr. 30, which featured a billion dollars in infrastructure money that’s focused primarily around areas near Winnipeg, Brandon and northern Manitoba. It also included modest spending increases in health care and education. No significant spending allocations for Neepawa and the surrounding area were mentioned.

Boxe Neepawa happy with response to fundraiser

The Boxe Neepawa Combat Sports and Fitness Club recently showcased the artistry and skill of the sweet science. The club hosted an event on May. 2 at the Neepawa Curling Club, which featured boxing demonstrations from some of its members, as well as a live feed from the Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao championship pay-per-view in Las Vegas.

Time to “pony up” and “get in the race”. Over the past 40-plus years, I have encouraged and supported many, many individuals to become involved with politics. Today I am letting it be known that I, Christine Waddell (nee Lobel), will be letting my name stand for the position of councillor in the Town of Neepawa.
