Record breaking day for NACI track & field

It was a record setting day for a pair of Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute (NACI) athletes at the Zone Seven Track and Field championship. The event, held on Wednesday, May 25 in Neepawa, saw Ben Perrett of NACI set a new zone record in the Junior Varsity Boys 800 metre race, with a time of 2:12. Teammate Tanner Mann also eclipsed a former regional record, in the Junior Boys Long Jump. He made a jump of 5.89 metres, to win the event and set the new benchmark. In total, NACI garnered 43 top-three finishes on the day, with 14 of those being first place results. Notable local results included:

A cut for kids

Four-year-old Summer Gillis of Rivers did not really enjoy having such long hair so rather than toss the tresses, parents Brandon and Skye Gillis decided to recycle them. Following a May 14 trip to Hair Dynamics, stylist Melissa Baranyk cut a 12-inch pony tail from Summer which was shipped to Angel Hair for Kids in Mississauga, Ont.
