Banner newspapers had a successful evening at the Manitoba Community Newspaper Association (MCNA) annual Better Newspapers Competition. The awards were presented during the organization’s annual convention, held April 29 and 30 in Winnipeg. Banner papers came home with 13 awards.
Neepawa approves 2016 budget

The financial plan for the Town of Neepawa has been approved. On Tuesday, May 3, Council gave second and third reading to the document, which allocates $7,655,027.81 towards the general operating fund and $5,047,751.51 to the utility operating fund.
Rivers youth heading to judo nationals

Melody Kroeker competed in two categories at a judo tournament in Portage la Prairie on April 16. Seven members of the Brandon club, including two of her younger siblings, competed as well. Sister Marita and brother Jonathan each earned participation medals in their categories. There were 150 judoka registered.

Quintin Lisoway of Neepawa, is among a trio of new players who will suit up for the University of Manitoba Bisons next season. Lisoway, along with Kamerin Nault of the MJHL’s Winnipeg Blues and Nick Zajac of Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades, all formally committed to the hockey program on Friday, Apr. 29.
