Canadians, and Manitobans as well, are about to be subjected to the biggest scam ever foisted upon us. It’s called the carbon tax. The Canadian government is imposing a carbon tax. As our local MP Bob Sopuck and MP Pierre Poilievre have pointed out, the government isn’t saying how much the tax is expected to bring in or where it will be spent. I think everyone can guess where it will be spent and that is the blackhole of government spending that has typified governments of the past few decades. God knows, they wouldn’t want to balance the budget, service the debt or actually curb spending. It is reported that a family taking in $85,000 per year pays 45 per cent in taxes of all kinds. That is scarily close to half their income.

The Neepawa Novas Gymnastics Club recently closed out their competitive season at the Regional Stream Provincial Championship. The event was held Apr. 20-22 in Swan River and hosted by the Swan Valley Cheetahs Gymnastics Club.

The recent cool temperatures aren’t expected to chill the enthusiasm of local golfers who are finally getting back out on the greens. The Neepawa Golf & Country Club (NGCC) has confirmed it will open for the season on Thursday, May. 3. As of Tuesday, May 1, it was expected that all 18 holes would be available for play heading into the weekend.

80 years ago. Tuesday, April 26, 1938: Work was begun Monday to change the Mountain Avenue entrance to the Economy Store. The steps were removed and when the job is completed there will be one step on the outside and two on the inside of the building. The grocery counter has also been moved to the west side of the store.
