Yellowhead defencemen selected 1st in MJHL draft

For the second straight year, a member of the Yellowhead Chiefs was the first selection in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League 2016 bantam draft. Defencemen Parker Malchuk, of Birtle, was picked by the Neepawa Natives on Sunday, June 5, in Selkirk. Malchuk, 15, scored eight goals and 19 assists for the bantam AAA Chiefs during the regular season. During last year’s draft, Neepawa also had the number one draft pick, and chose Yellowhead centre Mackenzie Belinski, of Vista, MB.

The month of May saw a total of 40 calls for service by Rivers Police Service, including the theft of groceries from Rivers Bigway Foods on Sunday, May 29. We also kicked off our annual Use Your Head campaign and we participated in a mock accident at Rivers Collegiate. The rest of our calls fell into the following categories.

McCreary School’s social justice club, “Operation DifferenceMakers,” would like to thank the Samaritan House in Brandon for facilitating some time for students to help spread mulch and weed their community garden. During the time in Brandon, the club also took the opportunity to sort nonperishable food items at the Samaritan House facility.

Air Cadet League of Canada (MB)
The Royal Canadian Air Cadets, in partnership with the Air Cadet League of Canada, has been training youth in Canada for 75 years. Throughout its history, No. 9 Neepawa Air Cadet Squadron has attracted youth from Neepawa, Kelwood, Riding Mountain, Erickson, Onanole, Minnedosa, Franklin, Mentmore, Brookdale, Arden, Gladstone, Mountain Road, Birnie, Eden, Wellwood and Edrans.
